How 5 Star Bookkeeping Services, LLC got started

Well, some people would call me a nerd. For most individuals and even businesses’, dealing with numbers, their financials, and putting the two together sound anything but a fun and good time. Business owners are always struggling to keep track of their books for a number of reasons. Some of them are, but not limited too, having little to no time to input and keep track of their business transactions, always having to do the business side of things instead of the bookkeeping duties, not understanding the basic accounting principles and mis-categorizing accounts, not really wanting to know how their business is doing financially, and many more unfortunate reasons. 

I started to realize this after my sister convinced me to start reconciling her business accounts. I was hesitant to take on the task at first but she persisted that I would enjoy it and she pulled the “Emily, I won’t trust anyone else with my finances and bookkeeping. You would be perfect.” Talk about a total guilt trip!

That was the beginning to an end though as I have completed several courses and received several certifications and have started my own bookkeeping business since I started with her 2 years ago. 

       

       Let’s imagine you’re the owner of a business for the year. So, for 12 months, January-December, the business is open, running, and doing well. At year end, you ask yourself “Geez, I wonder how my taxes will turn out this year.” After contacting your CPA (accountant)/tax preparer, they ask you to submit a number of financial statements, some of them you never even heard of. Not only that, you need all the doucmentation supporting the numbers presented on the statements. 

You realize you probably have the supporting documents but they are all thrown in together in one file cabinet. You started an excel sheet in January to keep track of expenses, payroll, and busness income, etc. but you never had time to keep up with it.

Now, I could probably go on with this disaster of a story but truth be told, a lot of business’s do get behind on their bookkeeping, creating a major stressor during tax time. Business’s forget about deductions on expenses or non-chalantly throw receipts away wondering where in the hell is all my money disappearing to.

I am pretty much a straight shooter. To the point. I don’t try to sugar coat things that shouldn’t be. When it comes to money and finances, you’re either doing Great, Breaking Even, or Absolutely Sucking! I want all my clients and their business’s in the Great category. 

If they are not, we (you and I) will get it to GREAT! Realizing where exactly your money is going and what services/goods are bringing in profit are keys to putting, and keeping yourself in that great category.
